For the two weeks leading up to 10th June, 2018, the air around the corridors of the Middle School was abuzz with excitement. All of the students from grades 5-8 were busy spending all of their free time preparing for World Culture Day – collaborating in their research about each country, brainstorming for décor ideas, learning the content for presentation amongst a host of other things.
When the day arrived, the same corridors were transformed completely from their regular appearance into the 7 continents and 24 countries. Upon entering the classrooms, one found the different aspects of every country displayed in full glory – be it arts, culture, economy, history, heritage, science and technology or the traditional dresses adorning the students.
The thoughtfulness behind the little giveaways prepared by the students, the creativity of the lovely models and paintings, and the confidence with which the students explained all the information they had painstakingly assimilated – all of it was a true reflection of the teamwork among the students as well as the kind of hands-on learning that had taken place.
Parental engagement and involvement was at an all-time high, in the help they provided to their children in preparing for the event as well as in the large numbers in which they attended the event. As parents walked around the corridors, their awe was visible and all of them had glowing feedback to give about the teachers as well as students for giving such a fantastic performance that not only educated all present but also imparted to them values of tolerance and awareness of various cultures while honing the creative talents of all students and enhancing their knowledge about the world.
